I told a small lie in that the Escape rotor is a bit big diameter and I M going to look into relocating the caliper a bit to suit. I want all wear parts to be off the shelf.

With the aluminum diff housing and knuckles it shouldn't be any heavier than a solid axle, less unsprung weight.

Look at it as a FFR(IRS) minus the body

I'm not home so I can't take a pic right now but it looks like a set of Porsche 914 seat tracks would be just about right for those seats, or at least the driver side. That might save some head...

I'm building a 1400 lb car with 500+hp/tq and 315 R1s my answer is to use a fresh T5 I have till it breaks or I have the $ for a Gforce T5 with Dog Face gears. I like how the T5 shifts better...

Wasn't really trying to be a smart ass. The 302 has a couple of well documented problems which the 351 fixes, blocks break, cranks break, and block deck moves around blowing head gaskets.

It's a fairly documented problem that 302/5.0 blocks have a rather bad propensity to split down the middle. The 351 fixes this problem.
