There is basically no option to SB100 as far as smog is concerned. The other options have all expired. A specially constructed vehicle has to obtain an SPCN sequence number to be registered at all; it has to be one of the first 500 issued in the year to qualify for smog exemption.

If you don't get that tag, you'll have to run on what TOPs you can get or have a lovely garage decoration for 2010. The TOP situation varies; you used to be able to get them almost continuously, and I was warned (in October) that I would be unable to get anything but 1- and 2-day tags... but the DMV clerk handed me a 60-day without even being asked. Sooo... both of us need to be in line at a friendly DMV office early on Monday.
