A Pinto rack is different than a Mustang II rack. They mount differently, they have different rack lengths and have different tie rod ends.

If you are designing new car, you can utilize either one in your design successfully.

If you are replacing a rack in a car that has a particular type in it, you can't change styles unless you are trying to correct a particular issue. You run the risk of creating a bumpsteer issue.
