That Tucker is a fake. Tucker never made a convertible even in prototype. The "provenance" is BS , it was built in a bodyshop in the midwest. Tucker didn't have time for more than one model..
Back to R&S - there were several people injured by the tent poles and were transported to the hospital. They were super lucky that no one was killed. I would say that we did have quite a storm , like no kidding, and although it was a little breezy (gusts to 55-60), there is no way that those tents should have gone down. We got about 4 inches of rain at my house which is a lot of rain for sure, it has filled my pool to the brim. I live about 2 miles from the R&S auction site and I can tell you that the way those tents were erected is a bit odd. The main poles are on what seems to be 3/4" plywood and they used the tent pegs to tension the fabric and cause the whole contraption to stand. No footings. Not hammered into the ground on the main at all.
I am not an engineer and it is only my opinion - When you have rainstorms for 3 days and you get the reports from LA - mudslides, streets that look like rivers and all the rest and you know it is coming your way -Southwest stopped flying at 10:30 in the morning and the airport closed at 1400 - we had Tornado warnings at 1600- and you are on dirt, not pavement like the Barret - it would seem to me that regardless of legality, contracts or any other bu!!$hit that you would feel a moral obligation to your patrons to haul ass out of there before your tent crashed down at 1805.
We have seen winds like this many times since I moved here 6 years ago and I am sure guys like Vettester and other lifetime residents that this weather does happen occaisionally. At the Barret, they used semis to bolster their tents, the main one is permanent and owned by the city, and they used one of those Prevost housecars to block the exit every time a car went out the door to prevent the wind from lifting the tent. They also stopped the action for a bit from concern for the weather. Don't get the impression that I think any of these guys are anything but used car salesmen who use whatever huckster tricks they can to squeeze money out of the rubes burt at least they are aware that if you wipe out the cars you will wreck your biz..
One of my friends had his car whacked at the R&S and he was told that it could still be auctioned with a dent in the roof so they would not refund his entry fee. This guy makes a fair part of his living from the auctions and he has now to fix his car and hope for the best. He offered to put a really nice 57 Chevy in as a substitute but that was refused as well. He is really steamed about this and very well known in this area. I think that we will find that few will consign to this auction next year.
Someone wondered about who is to pay for the repairs. My friend said that he has to use his insurance to fix his car and that if you bought a car then you better be sure it was insured or you will be fixing it yourself. The R&S does not take posession of the cars like Barrett J does so it is your problem..
I expect that there will be problems for some time here as I am told on good authority that the Fire Dept demanded that the tents be turned 90 degrees on Tuesday and the the expense deterred that change for the auction. Nice.
I would be very concerned if my car had the windows broken or the top was down as it would be like a flood car after Thursday and Friday. On the Channel 12 news they showed 3 Cobras from their Helo and the comment was that "those Shelbys must be really soaked " as they were sitting uncovered in the mud. I don't know if they were real or not but I know those SuperBird MoPars were real for sure and one is totalled as the body is hammered , the roof collapsed and the wing torn off.
Be sure that a lot of people are hurt by this and that someone is going to get a huge a$$kicking in court.. How about Phoenix Tent that rented the tents to Drew ?
I will update if I hear more, I know about 20 guys who had cars in there
