One of the more chilling aspects of this new conservative movement is the constant use of "American loyalty". For God and Country, support the troops, freedom and many other terms that any reasonable American would readily accept. But the way these terms are used insinuate that any disagreement with the "movement" call's into question your loyalty to the country, your patriotic duty.
Such was the case with John Kerry, for instance, he was "weak on terror", portrayed as unpatriotic. Bush was the only man capable of "defending our freedom". Such extreme thinking leads to instances of abuse of power, like Abu
Ghraib and many other examples. Individuals who question this authority are labeled proggressive, socialist, communist, liberal simply because they offer a more moderate, less radical view.
It is noteworty that there is not ONE Republican currently in office who will boldy identify himself with the conservative movement, the radical right wing, while many quietly embrace it. This is makes the movement particulary insidious, a quietly creeping form of fascism, not yet ready to come into the light.
