Ahh Brent, once again you have stumbled blindly down the wrong avenue. The issue is not what to do after the pushrod was out of the car, in his hand, and the manufacturer was on the phone saying
"Sure, we'd be happy to send you a new one as a courtesy" (that's pretty easy). Rather, the issue was whether or not he needed to do anything at all in the first place -- or whether the whole mess was just a result of his use of a shot glass for an optical eyepiece.
