Default sb vs aluminum bb

I have gotten a lot of good info from guys posting their opinions on this ongoing controversy (big block vs small block). Most of the guys who go with sb's point out the benefits of light engine-weight, the effects on handling, etc. Does putting an alloy big block in overcome the weight problem. Someone said that the alloy big-block more than makes up for the iron bb's weight problem BUT that the larger width has a tendency to shove the driver's feet even farther to the left. Is this so? Anyone with a big block would be able to tell me whether the foot-left problem exists.
