I try to stay away from the political line.
I agree that the US should not foot the bill, but the rig company should share a portion with BP. The question comes in how do you enforce it? The only thing I can think of is to go in and ensure it is cleaned, then go after the companies. Problem is if you start down that road, they will see it is in their best interests to not clean it up since we are going after them anyway. That will put us back to the US doing the clean up. This really is a no win situation, and I am beginning to think that the best course is just to get it cleaned and don't worry about "going after" anyone. But I don't know anything about the
oil industry so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.
