Want to lose weight the cheapest way? Aluminum heads, water pump and intake manifold will take off more weight than the change to an aluminum block. (90 lbs less on my scale, resulting in a 520 lb 427). Changing to aluminum block means that, first of all, you need heavier sections to maintain the same stiffness (the basis for a reliable bottom end), plus there are all those sleeves. No miracles here.
