Thanks excobrabuilder, I've been thinking along those same lines. I could weld 4" round universal cats with 3" inlet into shortened side pipes and then wrap the whole deal with a Corvette style heat shield. Probably should bounce the idea off state inspector before proceeding but sounds doable.
