Get the poly covers for the stands and your jack if you don't have it already.

I put the stands on the main frame rails close to the front and rear cross member, unless I am doing something with the oil pan, in which case I put them farther forward on the frame so they aren't in the way.

I find the "stinger" style of stand is very stable. I don't see how the car could slip off with the frame rail cradled properly in the stand.

Sears has the same stands.

I also use wheel chocks when I jack it up or if I only have one end on stands. I NEVER leave it just on the floor jack.
