I agree with weld it, but if I remember right there is a certain way to weld a tank that has had gas in it. The fumes linger. I am not sure of the exact way but I think it was washing it out and then filling it most of the way up with water to force lingering fumes out and then welding with the water still in it. I'm not sure, but it must be somewhere on the web.
