It was the Temp sending unit. It must have gotten damage when it overheated. The PCM registered that the coolant got to 264 degrees. The stud in the center of the sending unit wiggled when I compared it with the new one. Installed the new one and all is well. The coolant light was being caused by a temporary air lock. Once the thermostat opend anf coolant began to flow it went out. I refilled the recovery bottle and the commute today was like having an old friend back. Everything seems to be ok. Glad I had
synthetic oil in it (always do).
