Probably the only thing that is cheap in Quebec is the electricity. I have a big old house with an attached 2 car garage (which is heated) and we are totally electric; heating, A/C, hot water, cooking, cloths dryer, etc. I added lots of insulation as well as new doors and windows years ago so I have done my share at keeping the energy requirements down. None-the-less, my annual electric bill is only about $2,400. While we don't use that much power for A/C, it gets really cold here in the winter so heating probably accounts for 3/4 of the annual total.

I am planning on installing a couple of solar panel on my sailboat this spring so that I don't have to always be running the diesel to keep the batteries charged.
