Default Help, need advise on removing pushrod

I need help / advise on how to remove the pushrod on a 66 mustang brake master cylinder. The push rod in held in place by a retaining clip inside the bore about 1/2 to 1 inch inside the bore where the pushrod sits. on he newer master cylinder, you just give it a hard yank and it comes out but this does not work for this one, any advise would be helpful..i was thinking about just getting a newer model master cylinder and just go to home deport and get a rod and cut to size or go to a junk yard...Thanks
