I have already converted (mentally was tough) to the volt gauge and found a black Smith gauge to match the rest of my Smith gauges. I was told that the regulator was merely a switch for the alternator so that is why I asked the question. My amp draw is similar to yours, but I am running standard ignition and have 2 foot box fans. I figure a 100 amp alternator should work for me. I also plan to put the cover from the old regular on a newer transistorizd type for the original appearance.
