About a month ago , car shut off while I was just cruising at about 2500 rpm in 3rd . Pulled over and saw that the starter main wire had contacted the #4 header tube and burned through . I assumed that I hadn`t tightened the starter down tight enough after clocking it for clearance ... so I re-clocked it and re-tightened starter and replaced the cable . Last week , the tach went to zero briefly and then worked properly again .... which was what happened about a mile before the car shut off the last time . Came home immediately ( only 3 blocks away ) ... and found the starter wire had come into contact with the header again . Talked to RobbMc and found that this was/had been a problem on some starters and they had changed the clamping plate from a plain one to one with serrations on it so the lock was positive when clamped down . They are fixing the starter at no charge . Things like that just drive me crazy as I was sure I had done everything correctly .... and I had .
