Sigh, Oh well, spoke with Qld transport. Seems the only permit option is to use the unregistered vehicle permit system, normally used to move from point A to point B but also can be used to effect a repair on a vehicle.
Cost is $76 for a weeks compulsorty 3rd party insurance and $26 a day for the permit, that equals $258 for 7 days.
Not a cost effective excercise.
