Yeah, I wouldn't be concerned about using those screens on the street at all. Especially under glass like that. You're likely to suck in a leaf or a bird. Lets say they let in enough dirt to decrease service life by 50%. You'll "only" get 50,000 miles between major overhauls. That's what, 10 years? not enough of an issue to worry about.

On the track, I run open trumpets; and K&N's on the street. I overhaul the engine every 2 years or so. There's no measurable wear on the cylinder walls or crank journals.
