Some early cars with the ZF apparently had the angle incorrect. There are different stories as to how this happened, but after the issue was identified, the mounting was changed. Keep in mind that the short driveshaft in the SPF will compound the issue as compared to the much longer Camaro driveshaft.
There is a fix and some rather simple ways to resolve the issue. If you want to contact me I can refer you to the solution. I can't speak for what Barry has told or not told you, but it can be fixed.
And raising the engine will not make your sidepipes hit the body as there are angled spacers available to adjust the pipes to clear the body. Sometimes these are needed on standard installs to put the pipes dead-center in the opening.
