Yes, but you have to look at the final drive ratio as well. The beauty of a wide ratio Toploader is that you have a lower 2.78:1 1st gear, which helps out with a higher rearend ratio (like a 3.31), but that same 3.31 rearend will help you cruise at a lower rpm.

For example, with that 3.31 rearend and the usual 26.5" rear tire, with a Toploader you'd be turning 2300 at 55 mph and 2900 at 70.

Keep in mind that a lot of your Richmond transmissions do not have overdrives, but they are made to have a lower 1st gear and a 1:1 5th gear. The transmissions that have the overdrives are the most expensive at over $3500. In my opinion, that's a lot of money to spend just for an external linkage.
