My brother had that happen to a fresh built 434 stroker small block chevy. The motor kicked back and stripped some teeth from the flywheel. The engine builder suggested putting a switch between the coil and ignition (I think) so that you begin turning the motor over before you send fire to the motor. Hasn't had a problem since and works as a theft device too. I'll talk with my brother and get a few more facts and repost.
