It still is. You can set your sights on a paint tint and when you get it mixed up the tint might change slightly and you dont like it. Thats like for instance I have a paint chip from 1956 and 1962 both are Diamond Blue, the 1962 paint chip makes it looks almost like a pastel blue (a very light whiteish blue) but its the same as in 56 which was a very vivid light blue. Then theres the issue with paper is flat and it is very hard to duplicate the curves so at best its just a basic idea of what it could look like.

So it is hard to tell what the finish product will look like. But it does help to give you an idea though. Better than going through 20 different colors at the expense of money painting the car till you find what you like.
