Hello Butch,
I have had four Cobra Roadsters (Shell Valley, Unique, SPF & Shelby (CSX4264) One Daytona (FFR) and a GT40(SPF) over the last 27 years. I have sold them all and currently have a naked garage.
I built three of them from scratch and the path I believe the best to follow is SPF, you almost can not afford to duplicate the fit ,finish, paint and quality of the SPF when it comes out of the shipping container. The modern Ford modular engines simply drop in and you specify the rear end ratio, transmission, color, paint, interior, etc. etc. that fits what you want to do with the car.
One man's opinion and I'm sure that there will be some feedback from the community here on Club Cobra. If your goal is the journey as opposed to the destination all of the recommendations are well intentioned but, reflect the opinion of the poster.......as is my input.
My next project will probably be an SPF street roadster with a 427 windsor under the hood backed by a Tremec 600 with 3:27 gears in the rear end.
