There is no doubt that navigating the maze of options takes a lot of research and getting access to some experienced heads is invaluable.
On the face of it - the car you describe sounds like it would be permitted, however your club would have to agree.
There are a couple of Cobra car clubs in Victoria and many members who are happy to share the knowledge.

I think you would be best served by finding a club you're comfortable with and talking about what you want to achieve and what you'll be in for.
