Default Pull the trans

larryameyers Larry if the trans is "HUMMING" this is more like a bearing. The easiest way to check the trans for a starter is to put the car on jack stands and get a SMALL sample of fluid from the trans. You may just want to change the fluid anyway. The old fluid should look dark brown in color. NO SILVER. If the trans has a magnetic bottom plug, look and there is any metal on it. It will either be clean or look like a junk collector. Clean plug if magnetic is a gear problem, metal on the plug or in the fluid is a bearing of gear. New fluid is not going to fix the problem. There are a couple of guys here on the forum that can rebuild your trans. Repair it before it's a 100 pounds of scrape junk. Gear humnming is either too tight or too much play. Both of these are not good either, something is worn out, again pull trans and have fixed. Soory for the down sides of this. Rick L. Ps better to repair the trans now that either be stuck on the road or blow it up and could have pieces sticking out of your legs. This was at a 1/4 mile. T-10 came apart and into a steel body car.
