Another vote for autocrossing and the use of a good instructor. Reading doesn't hurt. Tires and brakes are still the most important components in a car. Learn the basics before trying to push the car too hard. If you find you're scaring yourself (and others) too often, slow down a little. You can have a lot of fun in these machines without being dangerous. Just my opinion.
