I'm certainly not the most knowledgable regarding transmission issues, LW, but I'd sincerely doubt it. The T5 is shifted inside the case of the transmission, whereas the original toploaders were shifted by a shifting mechanism whose arms were outside the case of the transmission. The shifter was mounted in such a manner that even the original Cobras wouldn't have been shift-ready with it mounted "correctly", so it was turned around.

The T5's shifter, however, is mounted directly above the gears.....if you put an original shifter arm on it, the knob would be either in the dash or close to the bulkhead behind the seats.

I've been mulling about the idea of replacing the shifter in mine, but haven't decided on a best choice. Like most things in this field, there's considerable discussion on this issue. Go to a Mustang forum, you'll find significant discussion:
