Your installation looks great. Thanks for posting it.

I tried doing this on mine. Got them from McMaster Carr too, my favorite Cobra parts supplier. I don't remember what part number I got, but I had the following issue:

When the gas spring is fully compressed it still exerts force. Have you found the the model you purchased exert '0' force when fully compressed?

I felt that continuous force exerted to the brackets and fiberglass could be a problem.
