I`m running the Petronix in my 63 1/2 427 Galaxie ... and have for almost 10 years and haven`t had any problems . However , I don`t run their coil ... and also carry my original plate with the points and condenser on it just in case . I sent my distributor along with the coil to Don Gould at FBO Systems in Cottage Grove ( 541-942-5920 ) to have it recurved . He checked to coil on his machine and furnished one that matched his specs on rise time etc . You`re right ... the original was junk . Car is much more responsive since the distributor rework .
BTW ... I`ve heard that the newer Petronix systems ( made in China ?? ) have reliability issues .

Keith built my engine but I don't think his guys like dealing with anything but the new MSD electronic stuff. He messed around with it a little but claimed they couldn't keep the points gapped right and gave up and dynoed the motor with a spare MSD unit. They weren't sure where the points they used came from and I just think they didn't want to spend time on it. I checked over the distributor again and I can't see any reason it shouldn't hold dwell - looks nearly new inside and it's tight.

No MSD box. Just points, condensor, ballast resistor and coil.

I'll keep Don in mind if Tim doesn't work out.

Thanks
