Default I need oil pan/oil level schooling.

Hi all. I need some help determining how much oil to run in my new oil pan, how long the oil dipstick should be, and where the dipstick should be marked for FULL/LOW. Here are the details.

I bought a new t-shaped oil pan for my 351 Cleveland. It is 8 ¼” deep.

2 quarts of fluid = 1” deep.
4 quarts of fluid = 2” deep.
6 quarts of fluid = 3” deep.
7 quarts of fluid = 3 ¾” deep, and brings me to the bottom of the windage tray.

6 quarts would bring me ¾” below the windage tray. The oil pump/pick-up would displace at least a quart I think raising the oil level back up to the windage tray again, so maybe 5 quarts to start?

So how much oil should I start with in the pan?
Where should I mark “LOW” on the dipstick? 1 quart down? 2 quarts down?

Other details: I am running a dual oil filter system using “shorty” filters and an oil cooler. I will pre-fill the filters and cooler and I’m assuming 2 quarts for the filters, coolers and ½” lines.

Any advice?

Thanks
Greg
