I think I've narrowed done my buying options to either a new Backdraft from VMS (dealer in Connecticut) or a used later model Backdraft / Superformance. I'm looking at a mostly stock setup for weekend cruising and some mountain runs up to Tilden park (I live in Montclair, Oakland Hills), so will likely go with a 351W stroked to 408ci (in the 450-480 hp range).
Now I'm not a gear head but can do some minor tweaking and maintenance with the right instruction. So my questions are mainly around:
1) Maintenance network. If I buy a used car or even a new backdraft (dealer is 3000 miles away) what are my options for regular maintenance and upkeep in the Montclair, Peidmont, Berkeley area? for example if a leak pops up somewhere, carb timing needs adjustment, tranny is making a questionable sound, are there trusted mechanics in my area you guys would recommend?
2) I've test driven 1 car out in Dublin and would love to talk to the experts in my area. Anyone near the Monctlair area willing to meet up one afternoon and talk shop and go for a spin? Beers are on me
Thanks in advance

Any good shop that does specialty cars/rods can handle all of the service. We have many customers who are far away from our ocation. We handle what little warranty repair we have with a shop of the customers choosing. We will communicate with the shop, identify the repair and agree on a cost. We then pay the shop directly.
These are not rocket science, you are looking at a chassis that is 1950s/60s technology for the most part. Now a customer' s electronic gizmonian Remulacian fuel injection is a different issue but that is the installer/engine supplier concern. The body and chassis rarely have any warranty issues.
