We at work looked very hard into that "spray on chrome". We tested a few parts and I got some stuff for my personal use out of it...



...like these side covers on that bike.
As you can see the color difference between the real chrome and the spray on. The problem is the UV rays of the sun - that discolor the paint after a while to a kinda yellowish. Just over a year, indoor parking and 10K miles

Chrome plating compare to the spray on is very expensive, thus no one (like in the automotive industries) uses this method. They still, like plastic parts, mist the part with copper and chrome plate them.
