Default Carpet installation question.

Hi all. I have a carpet installation question.

I purchased my carpeting from Lowes – an good grade of marine grade carpet. When I bend the carpet in one direction, the pile separates and the backing shows – I’m told this is called the “smile”. Bent 90deg in the other direction the "smile" does not show.

So it makes sense to orientate the carpet over bends so the “smile” is perpendicular to the bend and does not show the backing over the bend.

But on the floor, would there be a “best” way to orientate the carpet for wear purposes? I’m thinking running the “smile” length wise from the seat into the footboxes.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Cheers
Greg
