Most guys do cut their bell housing. But to raise your car, you generally don't just get taller springs you'll probably need new shocks with proper sized springs. Do you have shocks with spanners on them? And if you do, have you tightened them up? The only way longer springs will help you is if you just have springs that are too short to begin with. On another note, you want your car to be as low as possible to the ground to eliminate any high speed float..that's scary.
