Sure Steve, First you need to kill the 12 vdc from the battery or switch if so equipped.
I removed my amp meter by simply reaching under the dash and removed the two plastic retaining nuts and the mounting bracket. The two female connectors and gauge light can eaisly be pulled off allowing the gauge to be pulled out from the front, Once this is done you cut the two connectors off the amp wires and strip them back 7/16". Use a sta-con to double crimp the two wires together and then solder the wires so it flows into the crimped sta-con. I then double heat shrinked the connection and followed that with electrical tape.
As far as installing the volt meter, just run the positive wire with a 3 amp fuse in series to the "on side" of the ignition switch and the other side to a good ground . The terminals are polarity sensitive so be sure to connect according to gauge instructions.
