As impressive as those statistics are, they are outdated and underestimate the current reality.

Current top fuel engines consistently make 8,000 horsepower and when tuned for a track with good top end grip make closer to 10,000 hp.

Since Nascar uses restrictor plates at Daytona, the top fueler makes at least as much power as the first 10 rows of the Daytona 500.

The blower requires 800-1,000 horsepower to drive it, depending upon air density and pulley selection.

If you have never heard a top fuel engine "idling", you cannot imagine it. It's something you have to experience in person. No recording can capture it and no description can convey it. One writer said, "Each time a cylinder fires it sounds like a hand grenade going off in a garbage can". That might be close, but who can imagine that times 8 cylinders idling at 2,400 rpm? If you ever get a chance, go. You'll never forget it.
