Merv - I guess not, but assuming a greater mass with the lead head it should be more effective in securing the cap. Daytons use their own locking/force transfer design and not the traditional Rudge-Whitworth configuration so the caps are a unique design. They recommend you 'belt the tripe out of the ears' to secure the wheels. The plating Dayton provides as standard I presume will tolerate the lead hammer (I requested un-plated caps). The hammers a quite soft and deform rather quickly.
I'm not planning a trailer queen and a bit of patina will be good - but I don't want the chrome flaking off.
