Schedule 40 PVC is fine for gas or liquid. 150-160 psi is well within safe limits for schedule 40 pvc. The key to using PVC is to make sure not use an excessive amount of cement when joinig the pieces, and to wipe away any extra that oozes out of the joint when you first put them together, otherwise it could weaken the pipe at the fittings. Most pvc pipe failures are from using the wrong spec pipe (sched 20 vs. 40) and improperly joined connections (too little/too much cement, improper cleaning, and/or improper primimg).

I ran schedule 40 for my garage several years ago with no problems at all. I have 2 wall mounted outlets and 2 overhead reels, and use a 80 gal, 2-cylinder IR compressor set at 150 psi. Works great!
