FWIW, I didn't have to Provo, UT to know that I wanted a Kirkham, but I think it does help when you can't decide on various options and you can see first hand what the beans they're talking about.
As an example, I couldn't decide on the FIA versus S/C wheels, so they tried them both on for size and sent me pics, but being there would have made things slightly easier, although I'm more than happy with the way my car turned out.
