Definitely go internal pump if you can to cut down on noise and simplify the delivery systems. Tank must be baffled too elsewise surge will be a right pain in the asterisk for you at low fuel levels.
A well built tank can set up the pump in a mini sump within the tank ie lowest point and if you use a proprietary pump say from large Ford or Holden you'll have sufficient delivery to power your car unless you start hotting it up significantly.
Think I've got a BF 260 fuel pod so it has the strainer, pump and level sensor all build in as one item, so for me a 5.4 V8 pump arrangement fuelling a 5L motor. Also makes use of the standard Ford electrical connectors so simplifies the wiring too!
