Apple Airport Express & DirecTv Wireless Cinema
I use Apple Airport Express with my Apple iMac and AppleTv for internet steaming, total compatibility being all Apple products, and DirecTv as the satellite . Attempted to install DirecTv Wireless Cinema ( Internet ) for on demand, additional programming, etc. While the initial hookup with Airport Express was recognized by the DirecTv Wireless, with the identical network name displayed on the TV, entering my password for a protected network resulted in an error message on the TV screen of invalid security code. The security code/password was valid with the Apple devices.
Inquired on the Apple and DirecTv User Forums:
*Changed my Apple Network name to a 20 position lower case alpha only with no spaces and no special characters. My old network name used an apostrophe, lower & upper case alpha and spaces, which the DirecTv device did not recognize, primarily the apostrophe, such as Joe Smith's Network. Error message was a password problem rather than a network name problem, Apple devices are compatible with either approach to the Network Name. The same Network Naming problem might also exist with Networks other than Apple. Did not change my network password.
* The new network name was manually entered into the DirecTv Wireless device using the remote, entered the password, then successful connection.
From the Forums mentioned above, others have had the same connection issues. While there may be, I was not able to find DirecTv published standards for Network Naming.......fortunately the Forums had the details.
