Try running it without a thermostat in it to see if it runs cooler. If not then try changing the temp sender. If that doesn't help, try changing the gage. My black car would say the water temp was 260 but the
oil temp never got above 200. Not compatible. Finally changed the temp sender and everything ran within a few degrees of each other. Water was always a degree or 5 higher than the
oil.
