Gasahol only works because of government subsidies. It takes more energy (because of the diesel use in the tractors to "produce" the corn, and the following energy to produce the alcohol, than it yields per unit volume over either diesel or gasoline.

Also note that top fuel dragsters use alcohol. Everclear.
