Ok I am confused. The tie rods are the least of your problem. I am sure you can take a few inches off the end of the Mustang rod. The key to making it work so you don't get bump steer is the proper length of the rack which must be shortened, so the pivot point at each end is in alignment with the angle of the control arm so everything moves in the same plane.
I will be seeing Mary Ann this weekend at Reptile Roundup and ask her what she is talking about with the Mazda rods etc.
