Yes, I have a fan override switch on my dash, it's the automatic part that stopped working - apparently (and as noted in post 2 above) it's a bad thermostatic switch, which I believe is "Switch, fan thermo (1980-1984 VW Rabbit Jetta: 823 959 481/75 - Page 133)" that needs to be replaced.
Do you agree?
