Best way is to remove knob, lightly lube the underside of the boot in the center, slide the boot over the top of the lever slide a round shaft (round is important) approx
(3/16" diameter shaft) screwdriver between the lever and the boot and gently pull the screwdriver sideways, gently streching the boot, take a little time and rotate the boot so the entire circumfrence gets worked over. Ultimately you'll be able get it over one of the "finger grasps", then do the same,(stretching if needed) for the other side. Take your time.
