Solid Roller requires more valve spring pressure than solid flat tappet, generally if and when something fails it will be more catastrophic than those of a solid flat tappet. With rare exception once the initial break in period is completed solid flat tappet is trouble free. I have always felt that with current technology (heads, exhaust) if I was able to get my 289 to perform close to that of the engines used by the race teams from the 60's (380 HP) then THAT would be more than sufficient. I'm very happy with the solid flat tappet cam and 48 IDA's. Much more power than can be realistically used in street application.
