The street chassis were painted black. After the boot compartment panels were installed everything in the boot up to that point was painted silver except the well in the tire tray. The braces in the boot are silver with black paint under the silver. Factory photos (including the Ford archive site one) shows this pretty well. The curious part is that the silver on the wings of tire trays has a slight champagne gold type appearance (similar to the 'argent' color sometimes used by car companies). The rubber dust plugs for the differential hanger holes, the top box strap, the jack clip, the bows and jack rod clamps (and wing nuts) were not painted silver but installed after the painting.
