The shocks really aren't designed to serve as a stop. If the shock "bottoms" out more than just a few times, the bearings in the end will pound out.
If you are using the style that uses rubber bushing in the shock ends, you may get away with it, but if you are using their poly-bearing style that installs with a snap ring, you're headed for trouble.
Been down that road with my car. I ended up putting stops on the frame to control the bottoming out.
